Pre-conference tour – 4 Days/3 nights Margaret River, Tree Top Walk, Albany regions of Western Australia

Day 1: Perth to Margaret River region
Leaving from the conference venue of the Rendezvous Grand Hotel Perth, Scarborough we will travel to the Margaret River wine region. After lunch we visit the chocolate and cheese factories (time permitting), and will spend 2 hours touring the Geographe Community Landcare Nursery in Busselton (please see the nursery website for more information: http://www.geographeplants.com/).
Lunch and dinner included.
Accommodation: Abbey Beach Resort, Busselton or similar.
Day 2: Margaret River to Pemberton region
Enjoy free time in the township of Margaret River before heading to Surfers Point Lookout.
Tour Mammoth Cave, then through Boranup Forest to visit Augusta and Cape Leeuwin
Lighthouse. Climb the Gloucester Tree and get an amazing view across the tall timber forest.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 3: Pemberton region to Albany
Stroll to Beedelup Falls, then travel to coastal Walpole. Take a luncheon cruise on the
Nornalup Inlet, visit the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk, travel to the Albany region to
visit The Gap and Natural Bridge.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Accommodation: Ibis Styles Albany or similar.
Day 4: Albany to Perth
First we will visit the Nindethana Seed Service near Albany, touring their custom-built seed processing and storage facility. One of Australia’s largest and most established seed merchants, Nindethana has been providing quality seed and sound advice for over 70 years, with a focus on promoting the use of Australian native plants. Clients range from home gardeners to multi-national mining companies including Alcoa, BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto. Much of the seed is used for environmental rehabilitation, where biodiversity and quality is paramount. The company website (http://www.nindethana.net.au/) includes their comprehensive seed list. Then we will travel to The Banksia Farm, Mount Barker. This is the world’s only complete arboretum of banksias, with 79 Species and 24 infra-generic taxa of Banksia. The gardens also boast one of the largest collections of allied genera Dryandra, endemic to WA, along with other showy hakeas, grevillea and other wildflower species. The property has been granted ‘Land for wildlife’ status and is home to abundant fauna and birdlife. We will tour this farm for 1.5 hours, including morning tea. We then travel to Stirling Ranges National Park for sightseeing at the base of Bluff Knoll, here we stop for an early picnic lunch and then travel the scenic route back to Perth to arrive back to Scarborough 1600hrs.

Cost: The cost per person is $AUD 1350** plus the single supplement of $225**, if applicable. A minimum number of participants is required for the pre-conference tour to go ahead.
